The New York Times: Take Your Child to Work Day

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, The New York Times welcomed a new generation of reporters, editors, coders, and critics—some no taller than a filing cabinet—for Take Your Child to Work Day.

More than 300 children joined Times employees across departments for a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the newsroom. From designing mock front pages and learning how breaking news gets published, to brainstorming headlines and sitting in on storytelling workshops, the young guests had a front-row seat to the magic behind the masthead.

The day began with a welcome breakfast and remarks from newsroom leaders, followed by a variety of hands-on activities. In the newsroom, kids teamed up with editors for a headline-writing challenge (“Aliens Land in Brooklyn—Say Bagels Were the Draw” was a standout). In Graphics, children explored data visualization through interactive charts, while others tested their skills in a fact-checking game that proved even trickier than expected.

The day wrapped up in The Times Center Hall with a high-energy dance party—popcorn popped, the photo booth flashed, and the DJ kept the beats going as families danced their way to a fun-filled farewell.
