The New York Times: Asian American Culture

On a vibrant spring evening in Manhattan, The Times Center buzzed with energy, conversation, and cultural pride as The New York Times hosted a special event spotlighting Asian American culture and its growing impact across arts, media, and public life.

The event brought together a dynamic group of artists, journalists, community leaders, and changemakers for a night of storytelling, dialogue, and performance. From heartfelt panel discussions to live music from Laufey and spoken word, every moment served as a testament to the richness and diversity of the Asian American experience.

Highlights of the evening included a panel moderated by a Times journalist that explored how Asian American identities are portrayed in the media, as well as the role of journalism in combating stereotypes and elevating authentic narratives. The conversation was thoughtful and engaging, filled with personal anecdotes and calls to action for greater inclusion and representation.

Attendees were also treated to an unforgettable performance by an emerging Asian American musician Laufey whose work blends traditional heritage with contemporary soundscapes, echoing the hybrid nature of identity in today’s America.

In the lobby, guests mingled over curated bites from Asian American chefs, viewed an exhibit of photo essays featured in The Times, and connected with journalists whose coverage continues to shape national understanding of Asian American life.

The evening underscored The Times’ commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and creating spaces where stories can resonate far beyond the page.

Asian American Culture at The Times Center wasn’t just an event—it was a celebration, a conversation, and a powerful reminder of the stories that connect us all.
